3 Easy Ways to Remove Pet Stains and Odours from Your Carpet

Posted on Thursday 23 April 2020

If you have furry friends in the family, it’s likely they will leave a few stains and odours around your home at some point. Accidents happen, especially when your pet is a junior, learning the rules of home living. Pet stains are best removed quickly, to eliminate that lingering nasty smell.

If you get to the stain while it’s still wet, it’s possible to remove it before it turns nasty. Stains that set in, can become a little trickier to get rid of. The good thing is, you can talk to your local expert carpet cleaners in Adelaide if you need some help.

DIY Pet Stain Remover

To save your bank balance and your legs from running to the store, you can make a stain removal solution using products you may have in the cupboard. Test any solution you make on a hidden part of carpet first, to ensure it doesn’t have adverse effects. Layer paper towels or a towel over the urine first, to absorb as much up as you can. Next, try one of these DIY options;

  •  Vinegar, warm water and baking soda. Mix 2 cups each of vinegar and warm water together with 4 tablespoons of baking soda. If you have a pump bottle, place the solution inside and spray it over the stain. Alternately you can pour the liquid over first and sprinkle baking soda over the top. Leave for up to 10 minutes or overnight for heavy stains. Blot up with a clean cloth afterwards.
  • Combine dishwashing detergent with a cup of warm water. Spray on the stain and repeat as necessary. Towel dry.
  • Mix two tablespoons of ammonia and one cup of warm water. Pour over the affected area and blot with a dry cloth.

Buy a Pet Friendly Stain Remover

Visit your local supermarket or pet store to buy a non-toxic stain remover. Use the solution as per the individual instructions and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Blot the area with a dry towel.
